Optus announced its iPhone 3G service contract plans for Australian customers on Thursday, and like many other partners Apple has teamed with, it will impose 1GB wireless data network limits on customers. Packages start at AU$19 a month for 100MB of data, AU$0.47 per 30 seconds talk time, and $0.25 for each text message with a $50 voice and text credit.
Coverage plan prices range up to $179 a month with 1GB of data and a $1,500 voice and text credit. The 8GB iPhone 3G will cost users between $51 and $23 a month, depending on which 12 month plan they sign up for, and between $61 and $33 a month for the 16GB model. Users that agree to a 24 month contract can get either model for free, depending on which plan they choose.
Optus will also offer pre-paid service plans starting at $30 without data. Data is available with plans starting at $40. Pre-paid customers will pay $729 for an 8GB iPhone 3G, or $849 for the 16GB model.
Additional information is available at the Optus Web site.
Apple's iPhone 3G is set to go on sale in about 20 countries on July 11. It will include support for 3G wireless data, a built-in GPS, access to Apple's App Store, and more.
